We all thought we'd left our troubled skin behind in our teenage years. Despite having mastered the art of taking care of our adult skin, we're all still a little prone to the odd breakout. To save you both time and money, I've compiled a list of my favourite spot fighting products to help combat those pesky lurkers.

Simple describe this face wash as 'a perfect blend of spot fighting ingredients and natural antibacterial goodness to deeply cleanse, purify and tone'. The antibacterial ingredients help to unclog pores, whilst fighting spots and blemishes. Use this daily on a wet face.

This gel-cream helps to correct the appearance of blemishes, unclog pores, refine skin texture and fight the appearance of marks. Apply this in the morning and/or evening on its own or under make-up.

Whilst this cream is typically associated with nappy rash, it actually works wonders on spots and acne. It has antibacterial properties, which help to soothe inflamed skin and stop irritation. Apply this directly to spots on a clean face. I sometimes rub this into spots and sleep with it on overnight.

This little pot of goodness provides targeted care for blemished skin. Tea tree oil is known to help combat redness, acne and blemishes - and this product is no different. Again, it contains antibacterial properties which help to soothe the skin. Apply this directly to spots morning and/or evening.

Lush describe this as a 'multi-purpose mask with a mixture of gentle yet effective ingredients to clean, calm and clear the skin'. The ingredients in this mask, including antibacterial honey and peppermint oil, stimulate, cleanse, renew and exfoliate the skin. Use this all over a clean face.

These are just a few of my favourite and most used spot treating products. There are a lot of products on the market so do use these as a starting point if you're experiencing a breakout. One key thing to look out for if you're buying for troubled skin is products that contain antibacterial properties - these properties really help to deeply cleanse the skin without causing irritation.

It is key to remember that although these may be miracle products for some people, with spots and redness disappearing overnight, it often requires some patience for the product to really work its magic.

What are your favourite spot fighting products?
